Manchester United achieved a remarkable comeback during their match at Goodison Park, coming back from two goals down at half-time to draw 2-2 against Everton amid significant controversy at the end of the game.
The Red Devils fought back thanks to the brilliance of Bruno Fernandes and the determination of Manuel Ugarte. However, they were fortunate to secure a point after VAR disallowed a last-minute penalty for the hosts.
Everton took the lead in the 19th minute when United failed to clear the ball on several occasions, allowing Beto to capitalize and slam the ball into the net.
Everton doubled their lead due to more poor defending from United, with Abdoulaye Doucouré coming from behind to jump in front of Harry Maguire and score after Andre Onana had deflected Jack Harrison’s shot into the air.
At that point, United appeared lost and were on track for their 13th defeat of the season. However, Fernandes pulled them back into the game in the 72nd minute with a well-placed free-kick, causing Everton to become rattled and nervous.
With new momentum, United earned a free-kick. After a chaotic scramble in the penalty area, Ugarte took a shot that found the net in the 80th minute.
The Red Devils seemed poised to win, but they nearly squandered their opportunity when Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt fouled Ashley Young after Onana had saved a shot from Idrissa Gueye.
To the outrage and disbelief of the home crowd, referee Andrew Madley was called to the monitor, where he reversed his earlier decision and granted United a significant reprieve.
United now ranks 15th with 30 points.
