Man Sets up His Own Police HQ, Ends up in Real One

Police in Uasin Gishu have launched investigations after a man established a police station without the knowledge of the National Police Service (NPS).

The suspect identified as Mr. Collins Letting shocked the residents of the Chebarus area for establishing an illegal police force.

According to the residents, Letting established the station at Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County, which he has been using to terrorise residents, especially those found in possession of unlicensed timber products from Cengalo forest.

The residents had previously believed that it was a real police station since Letting was a close ally to a former MP and had association with prominent people.

Unexpectedly, the area chief in charge of the Ndungulu location had no idea that the station was illegal.

Reports indicated that the station, which has detention cells and an office, had existed for more than six months.

The illegal station was discovered by the police on March 8 2025, who reported the matter to the Kamuyu police post.

“We were surprised to find a fully set-up facility painted in police colors, yet no authorisation had been granted for such an establishment in this area”, part of the statement read.

According to the National Police Service Act 2014, only the Inspector General has the authority to designate police stations, patrol bases and other administrative and operational command areas in Kenya.
