Ruphas Micheni Kinyua, 49, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman.
According to reports, he committed the offence on September 12, 2023, after luring the victim with a fake promise of offering her a job as a house help.
“The complainant met the accused on September 12, 2023, at around 9 pm at Mbogori in Chongoria Tharaka-Nithi County along the road. The accused promised the complainant a job as a house help”
After the meet-up, they went to the accused home, ate and then the accused left locking her inside.
The accused came back at around midnight, defiled her, locked her inside again and left.
Kinyua reportedly came back at around 1pm and freed the victim, then handed her Ksh.100 note alongside his phone number telling her to call him.
The victim encountered her aunt while heading home she convinced her to report the incident at the Mbogori Police Post in Chongoria.
Kinyua was arrested an convicted for the crime.
“The prosecution through Prosecution Counsel Emmaculate Hyimo, presented compelling evidence, including testimonies from four witnesses among them. Among the evidence produced were the P3 form, PRC form and treatment notes,” the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) stated.
