Mamelodi Sundowns Win the Tshwane Derby to Extend League Dominance

Mamelodi Sundowns continued their dominance in the Tshwane derby with a massive win in Atteridgeville.

The Brazilians demonstrated their dominance against their Tshwane rivals as they embarrassed SuperSport United 3-0 in a PSL encounter.

Sundowns made it 13 wins from 14 league games in the PSL after the victory with a Jayden Adams goal and a Tashreeq Matthews brace.

With 10 minutes into the match, Jayden Adams bagged his first goal in Masandawana colours giving them the lead in the derby.

Matthews pounced on a loose ball in the box and slotted it well to double the lead.

Barely 3 minutes into the second half, Matthews converted the third goal and a brace for himself from a Ribeiro cross as he tapped in with Supersport keeper failing to clip on the ball.

Sundowns resovled to knocking the ball around in their own half as Supersport chase putting in effort to find a consolation.

One of the architects of the victory was star midfielder Lucas Ribeiro, who was at his breathtaking best and received a standing ovation when he departed the field in the second half.

Ribeiro ended the game with one assist for the third goal but he was central to all Sundowns’ attacks and should have finished the game with more assists had Peter Shalulile not missed his opportunities.

After the win over their city rivals, Sundowns (39 points from 14 matches) enjoy a six-point lead over second-placed Orlando Pirates (33 from 13 matches).
