Mamelodi Sundowns achieved a crucial first-leg victory over Esperance Tunis in their CAF Champions League semi-final match, thanks to a single goal from Peter Shalulile.
Shalulile’s goal in the 54th minute proved decisive, giving the South African giants a narrow advantage going into the second leg.
The match began with both teams displaying attacking intent, making for an engaging first half. However, Sundowns appeared to be the more dominant side, controlling the tempo and creating better scoring opportunities. Despite this dominance, they failed to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, as Esperance’s defense held firm under pressure.
The breakthrough came early in the second half when Adams delivered a well-timed assist to Shalulile, who expertly slotted the ball past the Esperance goalkeeper. This goal sparked celebrations among the Sundowns supporters and put the home team in control of the tie.
Esperance Tunis responded with attacking substitutions and increased urgency, but Sundowns’ defense remained solid, preventing the visitors from finding an equalizer. Despite their best efforts, the Tunisian team will now need to overcome a narrow 1-0 deficit in the return leg next week.
The second leg is expected to be an exciting encounter, with Mamelodi Sundowns aiming to protect their slender lead and secure a spot in the final, while Esperance Tunis will be determined to stage a comeback on their home ground.
