Malala: I Was Ousted from UDA for Opposing Gachagua’s Impeachment Plot

Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has revealed why he was dismissed from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Speaking during an interview at Spice FM on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Malala disclosed that his removal as the Secretary General of the political party was due to a misunderstanding with President William Ruto.

He stated that the fallout was due to the fact that he declined to sign the impeachment of former deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The former Kakamega Senator discoursed that he refused to sign Gachagua’s impeachment because according to him, it would destabilise the Kenya Kwanza Administration.

“They even proposed having two deputy party leaders to replace him seamlessly. I warned it would destabilise the party, but they were adamant. In the end, Malala had to go,” Malala said.

He further recounted being labelled as a mole within the current regime owing to his strong opposition against the impeachment of the former DP.

He also slammed Ruto for allegedly frustrating Butere Girls students over the controversial play, which sparked public interest, Echoes of War.

“The President is boxing in the dark. If you compare the statement he gave to the content of the Butere Girls’ play, there is no connection. There was no paedophile in the play and there was no drug peddler,” Malala stated.
