The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has arrested two quack lawyers in Malindi, Kilifi County.
According to Steven Mbugua, a Council Member of the LSK, the two individuals have been operating in the legal department illegally for five years.
Mbugua revealed that the two had been purporting to be qualified lawyers and have been running a law firm in Malindi using the credentials of other lawyers, without their knowledge, to offer legal services.
The move followed concerns from the public, who doubted their authenticity as legal professionals.
During the operations, LSK recovered court documents and stamps belonging to other legitimate law firms.
“We have managed to arrest two persons in support of the police from the Malindi Police Station, and it is so unfortunate that these people have been operating for quite a while,” Mbugua said.
“We want to give a warning to all the people who have been operating with these guys that the LSK is very vibrant, especially on inspections of these masquaraders and we shall work with the police to reinforce this crackdown,” he added.
