LSK Boss Faith Odhiambo Responds to Resignation Calls

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has finally addressed calls for her resignation, maintaining that her commitment to the society and its members remains unshaken.

In a recent interview, Odhiambo noted that she took office fully aware of the challenges facing the LSK but with a clear vision of what she wanted to achieve.

She moreover noted that her track record and continued dedication to the role will ultimately be the measure of her leadership, not the calls for her resignation.

This follows a petition by lawyer Levi Munyeri, who two weeks ago formally wrote to the Law Society of Kenya demanding Faith Odhiambo’s resignation.

He cited her decision to accept an appointment to the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests.

In his letter dated September 4 and addressed directly to the LSK President, Munyeri accused Odhiambo of contravening both the Constitution and the Law Society of Kenya Act by taking up the government-backed role.

He argued that her participation compromises the independence of the society and undermines its statutory functions as a watchdog institution.

Munyeri went further to detail five specific grounds for his demand, the first being that Odhiambo’s involvement in the panel duplicates the constitutional mandate of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

He maintained that such duplication not only erodes the credibility of the LSK but also blurs the clear separation of roles among key institutions tasked with safeguarding rights and justice.
