The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has issued a warning to Loco Moto Bar in Nairobi’s Lavington area over excessive noise pollution following complaints from members of the public.
In a statement, NEMA said its officers conducted an inspection at the entertainment establishment located along Muthangari Road on Wednesday after receiving reports from residents over loud noise allegedly emanating from the premises.
According to the environmental regulator, the inspection aimed to assess the concerns raised by the public and determine whether the establishment was complying with Kenya’s environmental laws on noise pollution.

During the exercise, NEMA officers inspected the premises and held discussions with the bar’s management regarding the complaints.
The authority noted that the management was directed to immediately stop the activities responsible for the excessive noise and ensure full compliance with the Environmental Management and Coordination (Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Control) Regulations, 2009.
NEMA warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract enforcement action, including the possible closure of the entertainment facility.
“Yesterday, NEMA conducted an inspection at Loco Moto Bar along Muthangari Road in Lavington, Nairobi County, following complaints from members of the public regarding excessive noise pollution. The establishment was directed to immediately cease the activities causing excessive noise and comply with the Environmental Management and Coordination (Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Control) Regulations, 2009. Failure to comply will result in enforcement action, including closure of the facility,” NEMA noted.
The inspection comes as NEMA continues to intensify efforts to address noise pollution, particularly in residential neighbourhoods where entertainment joints have increasingly been accused of disrupting residents through loud music and late-night activities.
Under the Environmental Management and Coordination (Noise and Excessive Vibration Pollution Control) Regulations, 2009, businesses and individuals are required to keep noise levels within permissible limits and obtain the necessary approvals for activities that may generate excessive noise.
Residents who experience excessive noise are encouraged to report the matter to NEMA for investigation and enforcement where necessary.
The authority has maintained that businesses must operate in a manner that protects public health and ensures communities enjoy a peaceful and safe living environment.
