Liverpool Dominates at the Etihad, Extending an 11-Point Gap

Liverpool delivered an impressive performance at the Etihad Stadium, demonstrating exactly why they have been the dominant force in the Premier League this season by defeating Manchester City 2-0.

Under Arne Slot’s management, Liverpool has firmly established themselves as the new kings of English football.

Now 11 points clear at the top of the table after beating the reigning champions for the second time this season, the Reds showcased their exceptional skill, intelligence, and fitness, making it clear that their rivals, plagued by injuries and inconsistency, cannot catch up.

Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai were standout performers at the Etihad. They combined effectively, exchanging assists and goals in the first half, while other players also delivered strong performances. The only notable issue for Liverpool was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s struggle against Jeremy Doku on the right side.

Liverpool got off to a bright start thanks to their intelligent use of possession and earned a corner in the 12th minute following a promising move by Luis Diaz. Alexis Mac Allister delivered the corner to the front post, where Szoboszlai directed it back to Salah, who blasted it into the net with the aid of a significant deflection, giving the Reds the lead from a well-executed set-piece.

City sought an equalizer and thought they had found one just after the half-hour mark when their new sensation, Omar Marmoush, managed to beat Alisson after a fine run. However, the goal was ruled out for an earlier offside.

Five minutes later, Liverpool extended their lead when Alexander-Arnold passed to Salah. Salah’s clever work on the wing allowed him to find Szoboszlai, who took it across his body before sending the ball through the legs of Abdukodir Khusanov and into the bottom corner.

Just ten minutes into the second half, Arne Slot’s team believed they had sealed the match when Curtis Jones tapped in after a pass from Szoboszlai. Unfortunately for Liverpool, Szoboszlai was offside earlier in the play.

Despite City’s efforts to fight back, it was clear that they were unable to get back into the game as the half progressed. The Reds secured a vital victory, extending their lead at the top of the table, especially after Arsenal dropped points on Saturday.
