A Nairobi-based advocate has been arraigned before the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court over his alleged involvement in a Sh69 million fake gold deal after being arrested by detectives following months of evading court proceedings.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the suspect, identified as Alphonce Collins Odoyo Osewe, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, was arrested by detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office within the precincts of the Milimani Law Courts.
According to the DCI, Osewe had been on the run after failing to appear in court to answer charges linked to the alleged Sh69,024,800 gold scam.

The arrest was executed pursuant to a warrant issued by the court after the lawyer failed to honour court summons.
The suspect is facing one count of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
Investigators allege that he, together with an accomplice, obtained Sh69,024,800 from a complainant by falsely claiming they were in a position to sell gold bars.
The DCI further revealed that the warrant of arrest was issued after Osewe failed to appear before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Milimani on October 23, 2025, to take plea, prompting the court to forfeit the cash bail that had previously been deposited.
Following his arrest, Osewe was presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court at Milimani, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court ordered that he be remanded in custody pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.
