Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu has announced her intention to contest the Lamu senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Monday, January 26, Marubu reflected on her political journey, recalling her entry into elective politics and the support she received from Lamu residents in the last election.
She noted that she vied for the Woman Representative position as an independent candidate during the 2022 General Election and expressed gratitude to the people of Lamu County for the trust they placed in her and the strong support she received.

Marubu also reflected on her earlier attempt to win the senatorial seat, recalling her defeat in 2017, and said the experience helped shape her political path ahead of her successful bid in 2022.
According to her, the decision not to seek re-election as Woman Representative is informed by the constitutional purpose of the seat as an affirmative action position.
She explained that the office is intended to open opportunities, build leadership capacity, and prepare women for higher elective roles, noting that she has served with that understanding throughout her term.
Marubu concluded by formally declaring her bid for the Lamu senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, stating that she will contest on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
