Police officers from Smaburu have managed to seize Ksh 1.8 million worth of narcotics following tips from members of the public.
This was after locals noticed a suspicious white Toyota box with an unknown registration number travelling from Isiolo to Marsabit.
Armed individuals were seen offloading luggage from the vehicle.
Following the reports, the multi-agency security team went to the location where they saw people pushing the offloaded luggage towards the river.
When the suspects saw the officers, they opened fire, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire.
However, the suspects manage to flee leaving the officers at the crime scene.
The officer left near the river searched the entire surrounding area and recovered two sacks containing several yellow and grey cello-tape bundles suspected of being cannabis sativa.
The cannabis was then secured by the police pending investigations and efforts to capture the suspects.
