Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi Granted KSh100,000 Bail

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi has been released on a cash bail of KSh100,000 after being arraigned at the Narok Law Courts on Wednesday, January 21.

Speaking to the media after his release, Kibagendi’s lawyer, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, criticized the circumstances surrounding the arrest, terming it an abuse of state power.

He questioned the heavy police presence involved, noting that the resources deployed could have been used to deliver relief food to Kenyans in need.

Omogeni also commended the judiciary for granting the MP bail, describing the decision as fair and just.

Kibagendi was arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on the evening of Tuesday, January 20, under circumstances that remain unclear.

In a brief Facebook post, the ODM legislator claimed the officers used force during the arrest and initially took him to the DCI headquarters.

He was later transferred to Muthaiga Police Station before being moved to Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County.

The arrest came a month after CCTV footage surfaced showing Kibagendi assaulting a man inside a Java House outlet.

In the video dated November 27, 2025, the victim, identified as Enock Omariba Moriasi, is seen seated in a corner of the restaurant when the MP enters dressed in green trousers, a black jacket, and a mask.

The footage shows Kibagendi pointing and appearing to shout at Moriasi before kicking him in the chest and grabbing him by the neck.

Staff and customers rushed in to intervene, but the MP continued the assault, punching Moriasi and knocking him to the floor.
