Lesotho’s King Letsie III has landed in Kenya for a three-day official visit focused on addressing Africa’s worsening food security crisis.
The visit, which commenced on Sunday, July 26, follows an invitation by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and will see the monarch engage with government leaders, humanitarian agencies and development partners on the continent’s food security challenges.
As part of his itinerary, King Letsie III is expected to hold talks with President William Ruto before visiting drought-stricken areas to assess the humanitarian impact of prolonged food shortages and climate-related challenges.

The visit will conclude on Wednesday with a high-level meeting bringing together development partners, donors, humanitarian stakeholders and members of the diplomatic corps to discuss responses to the food security crisis.
The King is accompanied by Lesotho’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security and Nutrition, Selibe Mochoboroane, Lesotho’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ntsiuoa Sekete, as well as other senior government officials.
On Monday, July 27, King Letsie III received a briefing from IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr Ahmed Idris and other IFRC global leaders.
The session, attended by Minister Mochoboroane and members of the Lesotho delegation, focused on the humanitarian outlook across Africa and the growing food security challenges affecting vulnerable communities.
