Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has revealed that his fallout with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua began after he declined to leave the government when Gachagua fell out with President William Ruto.
Speaking in Meru County on Thursday, August 6, Kindiki noted that he and Gachagua initially maintained mutual respect despite serving in different capacities within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kindiki explained that their relationship deteriorated after Gachagua, who had disagreed with President Ruto, asked him to join him in leaving the government.

The Deputy President stated that he rejected the proposal and instead urged Gachagua to remain in government and seek a resolution to his differences with the President.
According to Kindiki, leaving the government would undermine the interests of the people who elected them and create an opportunity for leaders who did not support the administration to take over.
He said he chose to remain in government because the Deputy President’s position was not meant to serve an individual but to advance the interests of the Mount Kenya region and all Kenyans.
Kindiki also welcomed recent calls for peace and mutual respect among leaders from the Mount Kenya region, saying he would not engage in verbal attacks against Gachagua.
However, he warned that he would respond if the former Deputy President resumed attacks against him.
The DP further reaffirmed his support for President Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, urging residents of Mount Kenya to back the Head of State.
Kindiki argued that the region stood a better chance of securing the presidency by supporting Ruto than by backing an opposition candidate.
