Police said the driver failed to follow traffic signals issued by officers at the scene, leading to the fatal accident.

One of the National Police Service recruits involved in the accident sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mathari Mission Hospital.

The deceased’s body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

The remaining 24 recruits suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the same facility.

The tragedy follows closely on the heels of another deadly road accident on Monday, January 19, near Kikopey, Gilgil, where a trailer lost control and collided head-on with a 14-seater matatu.

The impact left the matatu almost completely destroyed, claiming seven lives and injuring several others who were rushed to nearby hospitals.
