Kidum Dismisses Online Reports Claiming He Was in Accident

Veteran Burundian-Kenyan singer Kidum Kibido, born Jean-Pierre Nimbona, has responded to widespread online reports linking him to a road accident in Nairobi involving an overturned Range Rover.

The reports surfaced on Thursday, May 14, and were accompanied by images showing a damaged SUV lying on its side with a shattered windshield and debris scattered at the scene.

According to the circulating claims, Kidum was allegedly travelling with Kenyan musician Brian Sigu at the time of the incident.

The reports further suggested that both musicians had been rushed to Karen Hospital for treatment, with unverified claims that Kidum sustained a fractured hand.

The rumours quickly spread across social media, triggering concern among fans and prompting reactions from public figures who commented on the alleged incident.

However, Kidum later dismissed the reports in a Facebook statement issued on May 15, clarifying that he was not involved in the accident.

He explained that the circulating claims had been mistaken and were linked to another musician who was wrongly associated with him due to a shared nickname used by fans.

The singer further stated that he had already left the country on Wednesday afternoon for a business trip in Asia, well before the reported incident occurred.

The reports had sparked concern among fans across East Africa, where Kidum remains one of the region’s most popular music figures.

Known for his Afro-fusion and Zouk sound, the Burundian-Kenyan singer, drummer, and songwriter built his music career in Kenya after fleeing Burundi during the civil war in 1995.
