A 42-year-old woman, Jackline Cheruiyot, and her eight-year-old daughter lost their lives after their home in Poiwek village, Kericho County, was razed by fire on Sunday night.
Cheruiyot, an education officer working in Chemosot Ward, Bureti Sub-county, was a well-respected member of the community, and news of her death has left residents in deep shock and mourning.
Relatives revealed that she was a mother of three, with her two other children narrowly escaping the inferno.

The surviving children are now in need of support following the tragedy.
Her brother, Patrick Kiprotich, said neighbours responded after hearing distress calls and made desperate efforts to rescue the victims, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
In a separate incident in Ngecherok village, a family suffered heavy losses after a fire destroyed their seven-bedroom house and two vehicles, with damages estimated at KSh5 million.
The family noted that the blaze spread quickly, destroying household items, water tanks, and school materials.
Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich confirmed investigations are underway and urged residents to observe safety measures to prevent future fires.
