The Kenyan High Commission in Pretoria has issued a notice to Kenyans living in South Africa, urging them to exercise caution following recent unrest.
In a statement on Monday, May 4, the mission raised concern over the current situation, noting reports of demonstrations and isolated incidents targeting foreign nationals in some parts of the country.
Kenyans were advised to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions as the situation unfolds.

“The Kenya High Commission in Pretoria wishes to advise all Kenyan nationals residing in the Republic of South Africa to exercise caution and remain vigilant in light of recent demonstrations and isolated incidents reported in some parts of the Republic of South Africa affecting foreign nationals. Kenyan nationals are urged to avoid, as far as possible, areas where protests or demonstrations may be taking place, and to remain attentive to guidance issued by local authorities. They are further encouraged to carry valid identification and relevant documentation at all times,” the statement read.

The commission further provided guidance on how Kenyan nationals should respond in the event of emergencies, emphasizing the importance of swift action and communication with the relevant authorities.
Kenyans were urged to promptly report any incidents or threats to the South African Police Service and ensure that the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria is informed without delay.
They moreover noted that timely reporting would help facilitate appropriate assistance and coordination.
It also encouraged citizens to remain calm during such situations and to rely on official channels for support and updates as necessary.
