Kenyans Criticize Gaucho Over TikTok Livestream from Hospital Ward

Public backlash has erupted online after Calvince Okoth, mostly known as Gaucho, went live on TikTok inside Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, raising widespread concerns among Kenyans about patient privacy and the appropriateness of filming in a healthcare setting.

The backlash intensified after parts of the livestream were filmed near the maternity wing, a highly sensitive area.

Critics argued that recording in such a setting, particularly without clear consent from patients or their families, undermines the dignity and confidentiality expected in healthcare spaces.

Hospitals are widely regarded as environments that demand strict privacy standards, especially in wards handling vulnerable patients such as expectant mothers and newborns.

Many social media users expressed discomfort and frustration, saying the incident reflects a lack of respect for patient rights and professional boundaries.

Others called for clearer enforcement of privacy policies within public health facilities.

The controversy has also drawn attention to Gaucho’s public role, with questions raised about accountability.

He was appointed as a board member of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in recent months, a position that carries oversight responsibilities and an expectation of upholding institutional standards.

As criticism continues to grow, calls are mounting for the hospital management and relevant authorities to address the incident, clarify what transpired, and outline measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
