“I confirm that our Kenya High Commission in Kuala Lumpur quickly intervened and rescued Olivia. She is receiving medical treatment, and the family is informed. Great job, team,” said PS Njogu.
PS Roseline Njogu also reminded Kenyans to register with the nearest Kenyan mission whenever traveling abroad.
The advisory follows the incident involving Olivia, who was found stranded at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, appearing confused and distressed.
Although she could not clearly identify herself, Olivia spoke fluent Kiswahili and English.
The situation prompted Kenyans on social media to call on the government to intervene and ensure her safe return home.
The rescue of Olivia comes weeks after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that the government had secured the safe return of 27 Kenyans stranded in Russia after being illegally recruited to fight in the war.
Mudavadi explained that the repatriation was achieved through swift diplomatic and consular interventions coordinated by Kenya’s mission in Moscow.
He also revealed plans to travel to Moscow to meet with a Russian delegation, aiming to address the issue and prevent further endangerment of Kenyan citizens.
The Prime CS emphasized that direct engagement with the Russian government is necessary to halt the illegal recruitment of Kenyans and avert further loss of life.
