Kenya Railways Flags Fake Website Selling SGR Tickets

Kenya Railways has warned the public against a fake website and fraudulent online platforms posing as official channels for booking Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) tickets, cautioning that unsuspecting travellers risk losing money and exposing their personal information to scammers.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 8, the corporation said fraudsters have created fake websites and social media platforms that falsely claim to sell tickets for the Madaraka Express Passenger Service on its behalf.

According to Kenya Railways, the fraudulent platforms are intended to deceive customers into making payments through unauthorised channels, leading to financial losses and the possible compromise of sensitive personal data.

The corporation urged members of the public to book Madaraka Express tickets only through its official booking channels, including the Kenya Railways online ticketing portal, the designated USSD service and authorised ticket offices at train stations across the country.

It further warned that it will not accept responsibility for losses or inconveniences resulting from bookings made through unofficial websites, social media accounts or individuals claiming to act on behalf of the corporation.

The latest advisory comes just weeks after the corporation exposed several fake TikTok accounts masquerading as official SGR booking and customer support platforms.

Among the accounts flagged were pages operating under names such as SGR Online Booking Services, SGR Booking Services, and Standard Gauge Railway Helpline, all of which falsely claimed to offer ticket booking and customer assistance services.

Kenya Railways further reminded the public that it does not operate an official TikTok account and urged users to disregard any profiles claiming to represent the corporation on the platform.
