Kenya Prisons Service Launches Mass Recruitment Drive

The Kenya Prisons Service (KPS) has announced countrywide mass recruitment for constables, professional cadet officers, technicians and artisans.

In a notice dated Monday, April 7, 2025, the service announced that the recruitment exercise of prison constables will be slated for Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

“The Kenya Prisons Service wishes to announce to the public that there will be a recruitment exercise of prisons constables (male and female) on 30th April 2025”, part of the statement read.

The notice also stated that professional cadet officer applicants should hold a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.

Technician applicants, on the other hand, should have a relevant certificate/diploma and be registered with the relevant bodies where applicable.

Furthermore, the service stated that artisan applicants should have a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a certificate in Government Trade Test Grade I/II from a recognized Institution or a certificate in craft.

The artisan positions available listed are carpenters, interior designers, hairdressers and plumbers.

Professional cadets positions available are medical officers, psychiatrists, pharmacists and civil engineers, while technicians positions available include animal health officers, agricultural and horticultural officers, among others.

To qualify for the positions, men are required to be at least five feet and four inches tall, whereas women should be five feet and two inches tall.

Those applying for the constables position are required to be Kenyan citizens with a valid identification (ID) card and between the ages of 18 and 29.

The service wants all applications to be sent to the commissioner general of prisons before April 30.
