Kenya Power has restored electricity to about 90 per cent of customers affected by the power outage caused by a fire at the Musaga Substation on Friday night.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 10, the utility company said it had moved customers previously supplied by the substation to alternative power sources to minimise the impact of the outage.
The affected customers were transferred to alternative supply points through Webuye, Mumias, Eldoret, Kitale, Kisumu and Rang’ala substations.

Kenya Power, however, cautioned that some customers could continue experiencing low voltage as the network operates under the temporary supply arrangements.
The company’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr Eng. Joseph Siror, visited the Musaga Substation to assess ongoing restoration works following the fire.
The restoration exercise includes recovering damaged control and protection cables and installing new ones to restore protection systems for the 132/33kV transmission lines serving Tororo, Webuye, Lessos and Mumias.
Kenya Power noted that the work is necessary before the affected transmission lines and the substation can safely resume normal operations.
The utility firm is also working to secure replacement transformers as part of efforts to restore the substation to its full capacity.
Kenya Power said its technical teams had been working around the clock to restore electricity to customers affected by the incident.
The company thanked affected customers for their patience and understanding as restoration efforts continued.
The outage affected parts of five counties Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya and Vihiga after the fire broke out at the Musaga Substation on Friday, August 7.
Kenya Power released footage showing the fire at the facility but did not immediately disclose what caused the inferno.
