Motorists using the Emali-Isineti Road have been notified of a temporary traffic disruption as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) plans to begin drainage works along the highway.
In the notice, the authority released a traffic plan indicating that the works will affect the lane heading towards Emali town, which is located at the Makueni and Kajiado county borders along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
According to KeNHA, a section of the road will be partially closed from Friday, July 24, to Thursday, August 13, to allow installation of a culvert across the carriageway.
The authority revealed that the closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of a culvert across the carriageway at an existing natural water channel.
The drainage structure is expected to improve water flow and help protect the road from damage caused by heavy rainfall.
“A section of the Emali–Isineti (A5) Road, in the vicinity of Simba Cement, will be partially closed to traffic from Friday, 24th July to Thursday, 13th August to facilitate the installation of a drainage structure (culvert) across the carriageway at an existing natural channel,” KeNHA stated.
To minimise disruption during construction, the authority noted that motorists will be redirected through a temporary diversion built alongside the affected section of the road.
The diversion will be approximately 100 metres long and will allow vehicles to continue using the route throughout the project.
“During the closure period, traffic will be routed through a temporary diversion, approximately 100 metres in length, constructed alongside the closed section. Traffic will flow on an alternating (single-lane) basis,” KeNHA added.
Furthermore, the single-lane arrangement means motorists travelling in opposite directions will use the diversion alternately, and drivers should expect occasional delays, particularly during busy travel periods.
