KDF Chief Warns Against Malpractices Ahead of National Recruitment

As the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise prepares to kick off on October 13, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri has sent a strong warning to officers involved in the process.

Addressing recruitment officers at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday, October 9, General Kahariri called for utmost integrity and transparency, stressing that professionalism must guide every stage of the two-week exercise.

He underscored that Kenyans’ trust in the military is anchored on fairness and merit, warning that those caught engaging in bribery or any malpractice will face swift disciplinary measures.

General Kahariri added that corruption not only taints the image of the KDF but also endangers national security by compromising the quality and competence of recruits joining the service.

He moreover noted that KDF had incorporated technology in the process to enhance verification of applicants and eliminate the possibility of malpractice.

The upcoming recruitment exercise is scheduled to take place across all counties from October 13 to October 25, 2025.

Among the requirements included being a Kenyan citizen, having a valid identity card, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) pin certificate and academic certificates.

Moreover, an applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 28 for cadets and general duty officers, while constables must be between the ages of 30 to 55 years.
