Karua Backs Court Action in Karen Nyamu Hotel Bill Controversy

PLP Party leader Martha Karua has called for legal action against nominated Senator Karen Nyamu following allegations that she directed her supporters to eat at a hotel and failed to settle the bill.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, June 14, Karua criticized the alleged incident, arguing that leaders should be held to high standards of accountability and integrity.

She urged the owner of the establishment to pursue legal channels in seeking compensation if the claims are proven.

The controversy stems from accusations made by Dickens Odhiambo, popularly known as Kamau wa Kisumu, who claimed that Nyamu sent a large group of supporters to his hotel but never paid for the meals they consumed.

According to Odhiambo, the incident occurred after Nyamu visited Mama Lucy Hospital and later inquired about the location of his hotel.

He noted that a large number of people subsequently arrived at the establishment and consumed food and other items, leading him to believe he had gained a significant number of customers.

However, he alleged that despite being promised payment, the bill remained unsettled. Odhiambo claimed that the senator requested his M-Pesa number and indicated that payment would be made later, but he has yet to receive any money.

The allegations have generated debate on social media, with some Kenyans questioning the conduct expected of public officials and others calling for due process before conclusions are reached.

Nyamu has since acknowledged directing people to the hotel but maintained that her actions were motivated by a dispute involving Odhiambo.

She indicated that sending people to patronize the establishment was intended as a response to claims she believed had been made against her.

The matter has now attracted political attention, with Karua insisting that any individual, regardless of status or position, should be held accountable if they receive goods or services without making payment.

As the dispute continues to unfold, it remains unclear whether the hotel owner will pursue legal action against the nominated senator.
