Kariobangi Sharks Triumph the Slum Derby as they Beat Mathare United 3-1

Kariobangi Sharks triumphed in the slum derby as they beat Mathare United 3-1 on a Saturday afternoon in the FKF Premier League match in Dandora Stadium as Leonlevit Otieno starred with a hat-trick of assists.

Mathare United opened the match with a goal in the 6th minute when captain Elli Asieche stepped up to bury a penalty awarded after Junior Nyawir had been tripped down in the penalty box. 10 minutes after, they would have doubled the lead from a fastbreak after defending a corner kick but the Paul Kinyanjui effort missed the goal by a whisker.

With three minutes before the cooling break, Kariobangi Sharks on a glorious display equalised through Steve Mbulere to light up the derby to live to it’s gravity. Ngume started an attack from the right side and passed to Leonlevit Otieno who laid a cut back to Mbulere who tapped into the empty net.

Leaving nothing to chance, Sharks doubled their lead when Ghai Panchol stepped up and scored from the penalty spot after Leonlevit Otieno was brought down in the box.

Sharks on a stunning attack were forcing to finish the work as at half time but Wanyika was upto task as he made two stunning decisive saves to deny the hosts from adding to the scoreline ensuring only a goal difference as at the break.

Back from the break Mathare United came oozing and hurling all forms of attacks to the Sharks goal post and giving them no chance to build play. Daniel Ouru missed two opportunities that he could have easily slotted home from a header but only ended up heading wide.

With the missed chances, Sharks then punished late in the evening with substitute Humphery Aroko finding the net in the 93rd minute after he was set by Leonlevit Otieno to square the match 3-1 and carry home the slum derby bragging rights.
