The Kenya African National Union (KANU) has announced that its National Chairman, Gideon Moi, will contest in the upcoming Baringo Senatorial by-election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 2, the party said Moi’s nomination followed extensive consultations with party members and residents of Baringo.
KANU added that Moi had accepted the ticket, expressing appreciation to loyal supporters and the wider community for their confidence in his leadership.
According to KANU, Moi intends to center his campaign on inclusive leadership and transparent governance, pledging to run a campaign rooted in service to the people.
In its statement, KANU rallied supporters in Baringo and across the country to back Gideon Moi as he seeks a return to the Senate.
Moi entered active politics in 2002 when he won the Baringo Central parliamentary seat, previously held by his father, the late President Daniel arap Moi.

He served as MP until 2007, marking his formal debut in national leadership.
Within KANU, Moi steadily rose through the ranks, serving as Vice-Chairman before succeeding Uhuru Kenyatta as Chairman in April 2012.
He went on to secure the Baringo Senate seat in 2013 and retained it in 2017.
Ahead of the 2022 elections, Gideon briefly weighed a presidential run but later aligned KANU with the Azimio One Kenya Alliance under Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta.
He eventually lost his senatorial seat to William Cheptumo of UDA in that year’s polls.
In the upcoming November 27 by-election, he will face UDA’s Vincent Kiprono Chemitei, who clinched his party’s ticket after garnering 48,791 votes in the nomination exercise.
Tobole Kipsang Kibor Wycliffe followed with 30,897 votes, while Daniel Kiptoo Korir placed third with 23,613.
