Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has declared his support for the Linda Mwananchi movement, saying he has officially joined the political outfit.
Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, June 17, Kang’ata said the movement reflects the aspirations of ordinary Kenyans and provides a platform for advancing key national priorities.
He described Linda Mwananchi as an open political platform that welcomes leaders without restrictions and indicated that he would announce his electoral plans at a later date.

Kang’ata said the country has reached a critical political moment that requires leaders to align themselves with the wishes of the people rather than personal interests.
He maintained that his decision was driven by public sentiment and what he believes Kenyans expect from their leaders.
The governor also argued that Linda Mwananchi has the potential to unite Kenyans across the country and champion policies focused on manufacturing, increased funding for education, and improved healthcare, saying those priorities are key to the country’s development.
The announcement comes just over a month after Kang’ata revealed that he would not seek re-election as Murang’a governor on the UDA ticket in the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 3, Kang’ata said he had reached the decision after careful consideration and would later announce the political platform under which he intends to defend his seat.
He, however, clarified that his decision should not be interpreted as a fallout with the ruling party. Kang’ata said he would remain a disciplined member of UDA, continue serving in his current role, and cooperate with President William Ruto and the national government for the remainder of his term.
The county boss also dismissed speculation that he is eyeing a position in the national executive, saying his political ambition remains focused on retaining the Murang’a governorship.
