Kalonzo Insists General Francis Ogolla’s Death Was Not an Accident

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reiterated his claim that the death of former Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla was not accidental.

Speaking in an interview on Sunday, December 21, Kalonzo said he believes the late General was deliberately targeted, questioning the circumstances under which the Commander of the Kenya Defence Forces was flown in an ageing aircraft to inspect a school project in a region affected by banditry.

Kalonzo further stated that the Kenya Defence Forces is a highly professional institution and cautioned President Ruto against interfering with the Tonje Rules, which govern military succession, warning that any deviation could undermine the integrity of the armed forces.

Kalonzo’s remarks come months after he called for the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the helicopter crash that claimed the life of General Ogolla.

Speaking at the party headquarters on April 24, the opposition leader raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding the crash and the investigations conducted by security agencies, arguing that the former CDF was among the most highly protected officials in the country and that the incident pointed to possible criminal negligence.

He said he was prepared to record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations if summoned, insisting that key questions surrounding the mission and the aircraft used remained unanswered.

Earlier in April, the Kenya Defence Forces released a report attributing the crash to engine failure, stating that the helicopter lost power mid-flight and that the pilots were unable to regain control despite efforts to steer it to a safe landing area.
