The Kenya U17 girls’ national team, known as the Junior Starlets, concluded their preparatory tour in Morocco on a high note, achieving an impressive 2-0 victory over the Morocco U17 team in their second friendly match on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Mohammed VI Sports Complex.
This win came just days after a closely contested 1-1 draw in the first encounter, which took place on Thursday, April 4, at the same venue. In both matches, center back Elizabeth Ochaka played a crucial role, scoring in each game. Mitshel Waithera also contributed to the second match, opening the scoring before Ochaka sealed the victory.
These friendly fixtures provided vital exposure and tactical refinement for the team as they prepare for their important third and final round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium, while the return leg will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Stade Olembe in Yaoundé. The aggregate winner of these matches will secure a coveted spot in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Morocco from October 17 to November 8, 2025.
Head Coach Mildred Cheche expressed her appreciation for the squad following the two friendlies, highlighting their significance in shaping the team’s readiness.
“The friendlies in Morocco were extremely beneficial for the team. They allowed us to assess our match fitness and evaluate the quality of our players against a strong opponent. These matches also gave us a clearer understanding of our current standing as a team, and they have been instrumental in preparing us for the upcoming challenge against Cameroon, which is a formidable side,” said Coach Cheche.
With momentum on their side and valuable international experience gained, the Junior Starlets are now focused on the crucial home tie against Cameroon, aiming to make history by qualifying for a second consecutive World Cup.
