Nation Media Group has appointed six new directors to its board, including veteran journalist and media personality Julie Gichuru, in a major shake-up.
The new move follows the acquisition of the company’s majority stake by Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz.
The appointments come after Taarifa Ltd, a company owned by Aziz, completed the purchase of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development’s 54.08 per cent stake in NMG.
NMG also appointed technology executive Juliana Rotich, former Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar, and Georgia Mutagahywa, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Taifa Group of Companies, Aziz.
Gichuru, the Chief Executive of the Africa Leadership and Dialogue Institute, joins the board alongside Jubilee Insurance Group CEO Julius Kipng’etich and former National Bank of Kenya Managing Director Wilfred Musau.
NMG Chairman Joe Muganda said the new directors bring experience that will help the company navigate changes in the media industry.
“They bring a strong combination of experience across media, communications, technology, digital transformation, financial services, corporate leadership, governance, marketing and stakeholder engagement,” Muganda said.
“I thank our departing directors for their service and contribution to Nation Media Group and warmly welcome our new directors,” he said.
