The Japanese government has awarded Benson Ogutu one of the highest honours in Japan.
In an official statement on Wednesday, 30 April, 2025, by the Japanese Embassy to Kenya, the Japanese government disclosed that Ogutu, the former ambassador of Kenya to Japan, got the award on April 29.
“The government of Japan announced on April 29th that the Government has conferred a decoration, The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, on Ambassador Benson H.O. Ogutu” the statement read.

The embassy further stated that the award was for the invaluable contribution of Ogutu to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and the Republic of Kenya.
The Order of the Rising Sun is described as a prestigious Japanese decoration awarded by the Emperor of Japan.
With the award, Ogutu, who is currently serving as Kenya’s ambassador to Moscow, has signified the diplomatic relations between Kenya and Japan.
Kenya and Japan currently share a growing diplomatic relationship, such as infrastructure development.
