Former TV personality Janet Mbugua has revealed her celibacy journey, sharing how it aligns with her personal growth and self-reflection.
Taking to her YouTube channel, Janet noted that she chose to embrace celibacy as part of a broader effort to focus on herself and make significant life decisions.
“Being single, sober, and celibate isn’t something I’m flaunting as an achievement. It’s about taking a pause to listen to myself and make critical decisions. I’ve been single, sober, and celibate for over a year. I’m not sure when I’ll resume some of the things I’ve set aside. For now, I’m allowing myself to fully embrace this period.”

According to her, the decision stems from self-preservation rather than pleasure, admitting it has been both rewarding and challenging.
“It has brought me immense peace and perspective, but it’s not easy. We live in an overly sexualized society, and being celibate often leads people to assume something is wrong with you,” she said.
The mother of two also addressed rumors of her being involved with a younger man after posting a cryptic message on social media.
“You can meet a 45-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man—because maturity isn’t tied to your birth year. The same goes for women. Age might bring wrinkles, but it doesn’t always bring wisdom. Mora of the story. Don’t let the numbers fool you.”
She moreover clarified the context of her post, emphasizing that it was misunderstood.
“People assumed it was about me dating a younger man, but that’s not the case. You can embrace different aspects of life that don’t always align with people’s assumptions,” Janet noted.
