Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has expressed readiness to contest the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election following Winnie Odinga’s declaration of interest in the same position.
Jalang’o, who is also eyeing the seat, responded to Winnie’s announcement on Thursday, October 15, with a brief message signalling his preparedness for the political contest.
Winnie announced her bid, citing an opportunity to represent Nairobi residents as the incumbent senator, Edwin Sifuna, pursues a higher political office.

The development sets the stage for a potential contest between the two aspirants as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Jalang’o declared his interest in the Nairobi Senate seat in February, citing his experience interacting with residents across the city and his understanding of their challenges.
He expressed confidence that he could represent Nairobi residents effectively and strengthen oversight of county resources.
The legislator argued that the experience he had gained while serving Lang’ata constituents could help him contribute to better management of Nairobi County and improve service delivery.
Jalang’o also indicated that he remained open to pursuing different political positions if they offered him an opportunity to serve the public.
He maintained that Nairobi needed active representation, arguing that residents deserved leaders who would remain accessible and fulfil the responsibilities attached to their offices.
His senatorial ambition comes as Winnie, the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, enters the race, setting up a potential contest for the seat currently held by Sifuna.
