Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has urged Kenya to remain calm amid heavy rainfall.
According to the MP, the focus should be on solutions rather than blame.
In a post on Saturday, March 7, 2026, he stated that last night’s floods exposed serious weaknesses in the city’s infrastructure.
“The systems we currently have can no longer support the city’s rapidly growing population”, he stated.
“We must rethink Nairobi’s development—starting with modern sewage systems, improved drainage, and better roads,” he added.
Jalang’o also said hat the responsibility lies with leaders to address the shortcomings.
“As leaders, we must carry the responsibility and acknowledge where we have fallen short. This is not the time for blame. Blame will not solve the problem”.
This comes at a time when the country is dealing with heavy rainfall that has resulted to damages of property and disrupted daily life.
Therefore, Jalang’o stressed the importance of planning for the future, saying Nairobi cannot rely on outdated systems to manage a growing population.
Furthermore, the city requires a comprehensive approach that considers long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.
“Instead, we must return to the drawing board, develop a comprehensive Nairobi master plan, and ensure that it is fully implemented for the benefit of our city and future generations,” he further said.
