Inter Milan closed to within a point of Serie A leaders Napoli on Monday after beating Fiorentina 2-1 and gaining revenge for last week’s 3-0 thumping in Florence.
Inter managed to turn around their poor performance in last Thursday’s 3-0 loss to secure an important win at home, with Inzaghi praising the players’ ability to learn from past mistakes.
Despite dominating the action, Inter only broke the deadlock thanks to an own goal from Fiorentina’s Marin Pongracic, who headed the ball into his own net from a corner in the 28th minute.
The visitors managed to level the score a minute before the break, with Rolando Mandragora converting from the penalty spot after Matteo Darmian handled a cross.
Arnautovic headed Inter back into the lead with a close-range finish off a cross from Augusto, just seven minutes after the restart, securing all three points.
“The players were excellent; we were supported by the fans, and together we won a decisive match for our journey. We approached both halves well, as a mature team,” expressed Inter head coach Simone Inzagi.
The victory means Inter are now just a point behind leaders Napoli with both sides having played 24 matches.
