The High Commission of India in Nairobi has announced the extension of visas for Kenyans currently stranded in India.

In a notice dated Wednesday, March 18, the mission said that all regular visas and e-visas that are expiring or are due to expire soon will be extended by one month.

The extension will be granted free of charge to all affected individuals, including Kenyan citizens and other foreign nationals, in response to the prevailing situation affecting travel.

The visa extensions will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs).

The commission also announced that penalties for visa overstays occurring after February 28 will be waived for foreign nationals who have been unable to leave India due to the ongoing situation.

Affected individuals will be issued exit permits at no cost. In addition, those who have not applied for visa extensions or exit permits will not be considered in violation of immigration regulations.

Foreign nationals arriving in India as a result of flight diversions will also be granted Temporary Landing Permits (TLP) free of charge.

According to the mission, these measures are intended to ease the burden on travellers affected by disruptions to international flight routes and mobility.
