IG Kanja Pledges Security for Linda Mwananchi Meeting in Kisumu

The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, on Thursday, April 30, told organisers of the Linda Mwananchi rally that they share responsibility for ensuring the event in Kisumu remains secure.

While appearing before the Senate Defence Committee, Kanja urged the rally leaders to adhere to the law and cooperate fully with police officers.

He also pointed them to the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya, particularly on the right to peaceful assembly, noting that organisers have a duty to help maintain order during such gatherings.

The police chief further assured the organisers and leaders that adequate security measures would be in place, allowing the rally to proceed as planned without disruption.

Kanja told the Senate Committee that police had made progress in tackling criminal gangs, including identifying their origins, sponsors, and mobilisers.

He added that detectives had been deployed to investigate illegal firearms held by unlicensed individuals.

The police boss also condemned the attack on Godfrey Osotsi, assuring that those responsible would be apprehended.

Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen informed Parliament that 14 of the 17 suspects linked to the incident had fled the country.

Senator Sifuna and other Linda Mwananchi rally leaders noted that the attack on Godfrey Osotsi would not stop them from attending the Kisumu event.
