The Inspector General of Police (IG), Douglas Kanja, has directed a comprehensive and prompt probe into the alleged police abuses of Nakuru journalists at Kirobon High School while they were covering the arrest of former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala.
Isaac Omare, a police commissioner attached to the Internal Affairs Unit, stated in Nakuru that they were under a strict directive from IG Kanja to conduct investigations into claims of police harassment of Butere Girls students and journalists attending the national drama festivals.
Omare said that once the reports are compiled, they will be forwarded for necessary action on the officers who might be implicated in the incident.

He has therefore called on any person who might have felt that his or her rights were violated to make a report and write a statement of the alleged harassment so that action can be taken.
According to the commissioner, the police and journalists should work harmoniously as a team to have cohesive interactions in the events they cover collectively.
