Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered an immediate three-day inquiry following a dramatic security incident Wajir.
The incident which sparked public reactions occurred in President William Ruto’s tour in Wajir County on Wednesday February 12, 2026.
In a video, a man was seen running towards the stage where President Ruto was addressing residents during the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) event in the county.
However, the Presidential Security Service officers swiftly intercepted the man before he could reach the Head of State, who was at the time addressing thousands of youth at the function.
Ruto on was startled on what had happened and urged his security detailed to let him go.
“Let him go. Let him sit down there”, Ruto said.
Later on, the man revealed in a confession video that has since circulated widely on social media platforms across the country.
“I waited for so long to meet the president, but was not successful, and I feared the Wajir meeting could end before meeting him,” he said in the confession video.
In a Statement, the National Police Service (NPS) assured Kenyans that President William Ruto’s safety was not compromised during his tour in Wajir.
“The NPS wishes to state unequivocally that at no time was the safety of His Excellency the President, other dignitaries, or members of the public compromised,” NPS stated.
According to the NPS, it has formed a specialized team to investigate the incident, focusing on identifying procedural gaps that may have allowed the breach to occur in the first place.
The inquiry team has been given a strict three-day timeline to submit findings and recommend immediate remedial measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring during future presidential engagements.
The National Police Service further reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting the president and all Kenyans.
