IEBC Under Scrutiny as Muturi Demands Resignation of Acting CEO Sunkuli

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has called for the immediate resignation of the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Ledama Sunkuli.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the former CS cited what he described as a serious concern about the integrity of the voter registration process.

He therefore demanded that Sunkuli should step down over alleged irregularities in voter registration records.

According to Muturi, the issue came to light after discovering that his driver had been transferred to a different polling station without his consent.

“IEBC acting CEO Moses Ledama Sunkuli must resign immediately over serious concerns on the integrity of the voter registration process,” Muturi stated.

According to the former CS, his driver, Bernard Munene wa Gatama, was originally registered as a voter in 2012 at Kavengero Polling Station.

However, upon conducting a recent check, they allegedly found that the voter had been moved to Newsite Kiambere in Mbeere South Constituency.

He further questioned when the transfer occurred and why it was done without the voter’s approval, noting that the change prevented him from participating in the recent by-election in Mbeere North.

“The resignation of Marjan Hussein was not enough. IEBC acting CEO Moses Ledama Sunkuli must also take responsibility and resign immediately,” Muturi added.

“For over twelve months, political parties, civil society organisations, and citizens have raised serious issues relating to voter registration, data management and transparency. IEBC has chosen a path of indifference,” he further said.

Muturi further issued a 14-day ultimatum to the IEBC to convene a National Electoral Consultative Forum bringing together political parties, religious leaders, civil society groups, independent ICT experts, and members of the media to address the concerns
