The High Court has issued conservatory orders suspending the planned establishment of a United States-linked Ebola quarantine centre in Laikipia County.
According to reports, the orders followed an urgent petition filed by the Katiba Institute before the Milimani Law Courts, seeking to halt the implementation of the facility pending the determination of the case.
The court therefore barred the government from facilitating, approving or permitting the setting up of any Ebola exposure, quarantine, isolation or treatment centre by the U.S. government or any foreign agency.

The High Court has temporarily halted the establishment of the Ebola quarantine facility in Kenya
“Upon reading the Notice of Motion dated May 28, 2026, a conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the respondents from establishing, operationalising, facilitating, approving establishment of any Ebola exposure, quarantine, isolation or treatment facility in Kenya,” the court redirected.
The court specifically restrained the respondents from admitting into Kenya, transferring, receiving or facilitating the entry of persons exposed to or infected with Ebola under the reported arrangement with the U.S.
This was after Katiba Institute stated that the planned facility poses an imminent threat to life and public safety if allowed to proceed before the matter is fully heard and determined.
The court further certified the matter as urgent and directed the respondents to file their responses within 48 hours after being served with the petition.
It further warned that failure to comply with the conservatory orders would result in penal consequences for any individual or institution found to be disobeying the directive.
