Harry Kane; Man of the Match in both Legs as Bayern Bundle out Leverkusen

Harry Kane made history as Bayern Munich secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

The striker’s close-range finish in the 52nd minute marked his 10th goal in Europe this season, surpassing any other English player’s record for a single campaign in the competition’s history.

Bayern entered the second leg with a 3-0 advantage following a dominant performance at home the previous week, and they continued to outshine their opponents in Leverkusen.

In the first half, Vincent Kompany’s team threatened more, with both Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman narrowly missing their targets.

Leverkusen needed to attack after halftime, but it was Bayern who sealed the victory when Patrik Schick’s attempted clearance of a Joshua Kimmich free-kick landed right at Kane’s feet, allowing him to score from close range.

With star player Florian Wirtz sidelined due to an ankle ligament injury, Leverkusen struggled to create chances in the attacking third.

Xabi Alonso’s side aimed to become only the fifth team in Champions League history to overcome a three-goal deficit from the first leg, but it took them 65 minutes to record their first shot on target.

Jeremie Frimpong forced Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig into a smart low save, followed by Schick, who headed straight at Urbig shortly after.

Leverkusen’s urgency left more space for Bayern to exploit, and Alphonso Davies capitalized by converting Kane’s cross from close range in the 71st minute.

Kane then missed a good opportunity to add a third when he shot wide under minimal pressure, and later hit the crossbar with a snap-shot from a turn. Jamal Musiala also struck the post from a tight angle with 10 minutes remaining after receiving a pass from Serge Gnabry.

Bayern will face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals after the Serie A champions defeated Feyenoord. The first leg will take place on April 7 or 8, with the second leg scheduled for a week later.
