Greece Stun Germany 1-0 to Spoil Klopp’s Home Debut

Greece stunned Germany 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, September 27, with Dimitris Kourbelis scoring the decisive goal to spoil Jurgen Klopp’s first home match as Germany coach.

The visitors secured victory in the 74th minute when Kourbelis found space before his low effort took a deflection and beat Germany goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

The result gave Greece their first-ever win over Germany in 11 meetings.

Germany dominated possession for long periods, controlling almost 80 percent of the ball during the first half.

However, the hosts struggled to turn their control into goals and were punished by Greece’s second-half attack.

The defeat leaves Klopp without a win in his opening two matches as Germany coach.

Germany had drawn 1-1 with the Netherlands in Amsterdam in his first game in charge on September 24.

Greece, meanwhile, moved to the top of Nations League Group A2 with six points from two matches.

The victory followed their 2-1 win over Serbia in their opening fixture.

The result gives Greece a major boost in the group while Germany face increased pressure to recover in their upcoming Nations League matches.
