Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga has urged her county residents not to resort to violence following the attempted assassination of her deputy governor, Oyugi Magwanga.
While speaking to the press on Monday evening, Wanga urged an investigation into the matter and peace among her county residents.
“I am deeply concerned about reports of an incident involving my deputy governor, Hon. Oyugi Magwanga, last evening. Any occurrence that raises concerns about the safety and security of our leaders deserves attention and immediate action”, Wanga stated.
“I urge our security agencies to move swiftly and impartially to investigate this matter and ensure those responsible are brought to justice. I also appeal to the people of Homa Bay to remain calm and united during this difficult time”, she added.
Unknown people reportedly attacked Magwanga on May 11, 2025 as he was returning home.
According to reports, the two gunmen allegedly opened fire at the deputy governor’s vehicle at the entrance of his homestead.
Luckily, the Homa Bay Deputy Governor was not inside the car.
The incident comes at a time when Kenyans are still mourning the death of MP Were Kasipul, who was shot dead by unknown individuals at a traffic on Ngong Road near City Mortuary.
So far, 11 suspects have been arrested and detained in custody as the investigation continues.
