Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has accepted the resignation of her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga.
In a statement on Friday, February 27, Governor Wanga confirmed receiving Magwanga’s resignation letter, dated February 26, and officially declared the Office of the Deputy Governor vacant.
She assured residents that county operations will continue without disruption and that the vacant position will be filled in accordance with the law.

“Pursuant to Article 181(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and Section 32C(b) of the County Governments Act, 2012, I hereby declare the Office of the Deputy Governor, Homa Bay County, vacant with effect from 26th February 2026. Service delivery remains uninterrupted, and the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy Governor will be addressed in accordance with the law,” Wanga noted.
The ODM governor noted that during Magwanga’s tenure, the Homa Bay County administration fully supported his constitutional duties and also appointed him as County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
However, Governor Wanga indicated that Magwanga’s focus on future political ambitions affected his ability to fully perform the responsibilities of the deputy governor’s office.
She cited his decision to oppose the ODM candidate in the Kasipul by-election as a key example.
Magwanga officially resigned from his position as Deputy Governor of Homa Bay County on Thursday, creating a vacancy in the county leadership.
Magwanga stated that he resigned with a clear conscience, believing he had served the people of Homa Bay diligently during his tenure.
He emphasized that his commitment to accountability and responsible leadership remains unchanged despite leaving the county government.
Magwanga affirmed that he will continue to advocate for integrity, proper management of public resources, and the fulfillment of the county’s development goals.
