Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has stated that the residents of Kiambu will ultimately determine the political party he will align with in future, emphasizing that his political decisions will be guided by the will and interests of the electorate.
He dismissed ongoing speculation about his political future, insisting that he will not be swayed by external pressure, intimidation, or political blackmail.
Wamatangi maintained that his focus remains on serving the people of Kiambu and delivering development, rather than engaging in premature political alignments.

He further noted that any decision regarding party affiliation will be made at the appropriate time after consultations with residents, underscoring that leadership choices must reflect the views of the electorate rather than individual or external interests.
His remarks come amid growing political activity and realignments among leaders ahead of the 2027 general election. In a related development, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata recently announced that he will not defend his seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the 2027 elections.
He indicated that he will later communicate the political platform under which he intends to vie, while affirming that he will continue serving under the current party and cooperate with the national government until the end of his term.
Kang’ata also clarified that his decision should not be interpreted as a political rift with the ruling party, noting that he remains committed to his responsibilities and has no intention of pursuing national executive positions.
